Running Evaluation

Running Analysis – How You Run Matters

Woman running
Runners often obsess over finding their specific diagnosis without asking the more important question- why did this happen in the first place? Overuse injury does not happen randomly.

For example, experiencing pain in the left but not the right knee is not a simple matter of chance; there is always a REASON. The body in movement is a system of pulleys, levers, and angles with predictable consequences. Our bodies are mysterious, but not THAT mysterious.

Discovering the cause of an injury leads to a more complete recovery, and of equal importance, prevents future injuries down the road. It is absolutely imperative to long term performance and general well-being.

Running Analysis at Jackson County Physical Therapy

At Jackson County Physical Therapy, we use video analysis to evaluate whole body mechanics throughout the running cycle. Multiple angles are assessed and viewed at slower speeds. Your therapist will look for symmetry, efficiency, and proper joint alignment. He will then suggest specific drills, stretches, gait modifications, and/or strengthening exercises to address any deficits.

Performing running evaluations is one of our favorite things to do, especially when runners choose to do them as a preemptive, not just reactive,
measure!

Running evaluations can also be helpful to improve efficiency, speed, and endurance. Even if you are not experiencing pain with training, there are likely small changes that can be made to your running form that will simply make you a faster, stronger, and more resilient athlete.

Running Analysis Options:
Video analysis of your running form by a physical therapist; screening for muscle weakness, tightness, or imbalance; specific strengthening/stretching exercises; running drills; discussion of your current running regimen.

Cost:
$140 for a 45-minute, one-on-one session with a Running Specialist Physical Therapist
