The National Counsel on Aging states that falls are the leading cause of fatal injury for older adults, and that every 11 seconds an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall.
One’s balance tends to decline as they get older, and the risk for falling steadily increases. In fact, 1 in 4 adults over the age of 65 will fall this year. Take initiative and avoid being victim to these statistics! There are evidence-based interventions that can improve your balance, safety, and confidence with your day-to-day activities and favorite hobbies.
Balance can also be affected by vertigo, or a feeling of spinning or falling. Vertigo can be caused by an imbalance in the inner ear or by poor communication between the brain and eyes, leading to a general feeling of unsteadiness with certain head and eye movements.
Jackson County Physical Therapy employs therapists that are specifically trained to treat such conditions. This specialty treatment can allow you to return to your life without fear of dizziness from rolling over in bed, sitting up in bed, standing from a chair, looking up, or looking over your shoulder.
